New Ford and Lincoln Warranty

false false

Buying a new vehicle often means you are looking at numerous features, colours and styles, and models. However, you may not think about your warranty at this time. Even though you are buying a new vehicle that should give you years with little worry, it is important that you understand your warranty if you should ever need to use it. Here is some basic information about the warranty for new Ford and Lincoln vehicles.

Basic Coverage Information

The basic warranty provided by Ford and Lincoln is comprehensive coverage for the entire vehicle. It is for 36 months or 60,000 kilometres, whichever comes first. A Powertrain Warranty is included that is good for 5 years or 100,000 kilometres. Vehicles that have a power stroke diesel engine have their own separate Powertrain Warranty of 5 years or 160,000 kilometres. A corrosion warranty is included that lasts for 5 years regardless of the mileage.

An emissions warranty covers defects or performance issues for 36 months or 60,000 kilometres. This warranty is good for light-duty vehicles up to 3,856 kg. The emissions warranty for heavy-duty vehicles is good for 5 years or 80,000 kilometres. Specific emissions parts have a separate warranty of up 8 years or 130,000 kilometres for light duty. Hybrid vehicles have the parts warranty for 160,000 kilometres. F-Super Duty vehicles that come with the power stroke diesel engine have a separate powertrain warranty for 5 years or 160,000 kilometres.

Roadside Assistance

Ford includes roadside assistance for all new vehicles that lasts for the duration of the warranty. It provides assistance whether you are in Canada or driving through the continental United States. This provides towing for a breakdown or a battery boost if your vehicle has lost power.

Coverage Details

You must take your vehicle to an authorized Ford dealer for all warranty service. If your vehicle requires special training or equipment, you may have to take it to a specific dealership. The Powertrain Warranty provides coverage on the engine and certain components that may vary based on the type of vehicle you purchase.

Certain conditions that cause damage to your vehicle may not be covered by your warranty. These include damage from a collision or accident, theft or vandalism, fire, floods, or other acts of God. The warranty may not be applicable for damage caused by alterations you have made to the vehicle or incorrect or contaminated fluids or alternative fuels that may have been used.

It will also not cover you for use of non-Ford parts. These include lift kits, alarm systems, and other equipment designed to alter either the appearance or performance of the vehicle. The warranty doesn't cover any damage to the body that is caused by continual exposure to the elements, such as rust and fading.

Maintaining proper maintenance is critical to your warranty. If you fail to provide regular maintenance, you may void your warranty. This includes:

  • Oil changes
  • Cleaning of the vehicle
  • Regular tune-ups as listed in your owner's manual
  • Changing air or oil filters
  • Tire rotation
  • Replenishing or replacing fluids and lubricants
